MGL Rotor

At the core of this reel's design is its MGL Rotor, enhancing the angler's control to effectively employ various "start-and-stop" tactics that are used in many different fisheries, readily maximizing lure performance. Its rotor design was expertly crafted to be asymmetrical for balance, along with having less mass and physical weight to reduce the needed startup inertia for turning the handle. Shimano's proprietary Ci4+ material enables this weight reduction, requiring very little material to retain the required strength needed to withstand flex from serious drag pressures.

Refined Gear Design

With the use of both XfinityXross and Infinity Drive Technology, the Vanford FA yields a supremely smooth and precise rotation with a highly efficient drive chain which maximizes every bit of force anglers turn the handle with. XfinityXross Technology employs a refined gear design for this elevated experience, while Infinity Drive Technology reduces the contact of the spool shaft and pinion gear to mitigate friction which would diminish overall performance.

Robust Drag System

Merging the wear resistance of and reliability of carbon drag washers with the smooth and performance of felt, Shimano created a new material for its drag system for the best of both worlds. Known as their DuraCross drag system its combination of materials are woven into a unique pattern over the standard drag washer, with 10x the durability for improved performance.

• MGL Rotor: The Magnumlight Rotor is 25% lighter and allows for better balance and requires 22% less inertia, which makes it easier to start and stop the retrieve for a smoother feel.

• Propulsion Line Management System: The most obvious component of this system is the Propulsion spool lip design, which has been proven through tens of thousands of casting tests and computer simulations to provide longer casts while preventing backlashes and wind knots.
• S A-RB Bearings: Undergo the same anti-corrosion process as Shimano's A-RB Bearings, with the addition of shields on both sides of the bearings to reduce the possibility of salt, dirt, or other foreign objects inhibiting the bearing's rotation.
• Long Stroke Spool: Results in the line having to change direction while coming off the spool fewer times during a cast, resulting in less turbulence going through the guides for a smoother and longer cast.
